Wet underfloor heating runs warm water through pipes laid under the floor, fed from the boiler through a manifold. Gareth installs and repairs wet underfloor systems in homes across Caterham and the nearby towns, often as part of an extension, kitchen or bathroom project.
Installing underfloor heating
The floor build-up decides a lot. Pipes can go into a screed on a new concrete floor, or into boards over timber joists where height is limited. Gareth plans the pipe layout and zones, fits the manifold and pump, and sets up a thermostat for each zone. Underfloor heating runs at a lower water temperature than radiators, so the manifold blends the flow before it reaches the floor.
When a zone stays cold
The cause is usually at the manifold: a stuck actuator, a failed thermostat or wiring centre, or air in the loop. Problems with every zone tend to point to the pump or the supply from the boiler.
