What affects scope

  • The fault code and which part has failed
  • Whether the part is in stock or needs ordering
  • Age and make of the boiler
  • Any leak or water damage around it

What to send first

  1. 1

The fault code or what the lights are doing

  2. 2

    The pressure on the gauge

  3. 3

The make and model, from the boiler's front panel

Good fit when

  • No heating or hot water
  • The boiler shows a fault code or keeps locking out
  • Your boiler is due its annual service

If the boiler works but some radiators stay cold, the Heating page is the better fit.

A boiler that stops working usually means no heating, no hot water, or both. Gareth repairs and services gas boilers across Caterham and the surrounding area, and he is Gas Safe registered (number 520810).

What to tell Gareth when you call

The more he knows before he arrives, the quicker the fix. Note any fault code or flashing light, the pressure on the gauge, whether it is heating, hot water or both that has stopped, and the make and model on the front of the boiler. Sometimes a phone call or a photo over WhatsApp is enough to point to the likely part.

Fixing the fault

Most faults come down to one part, such as a pressure gauge, a valve motor, a fan or a sensor. Gareth will tell you what has failed and what the repair costs. If the boiler is old and parts are hard to get, he will say so, and Boiler Installations explains what a replacement involves.

Annual servicing

A yearly service checks the boiler is burning safely and picks up worn parts before they fail. Many customers have Gareth back every year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe to keep resetting my boiler?
One reset is fine. If it locks out again, stop and call, because repeated lockouts point to a fault. If you smell gas, ring the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 straight away.
My boiler pressure is low. Can I top it up myself?
Often, yes, using the filling loop under the boiler; the boiler manual shows how. If the pressure falls again within days, there is likely a leak or a faulty part, and that needs a visit.
How often should a boiler be serviced?
Once a year is the usual advice from manufacturers, and a regular service is often a condition of the boiler's warranty.
